In Our Secret Place

This evening I watched A League of Their Own. A movie I saw years ago with my mother. The credits are accompanied by Madonna. The memories that song & her voice brought back of the days where it was just my mother & me…The sounds of her & Celine Deon trailing through the house. Neither a personal favorite of mine but that doesn’t change what those old songs mean to me. I swear, I could smell the fabric conditioner & hear the steam blasting intermittently from the iron. It was almost euphoric. Finally a happy memory emerges.

My mother doesn’t play those songs anymore. Infact, before I left for America my step father actually took the piss out of the fact she used to do that.. somehow it puts a smile on my face knowing that he can’t touch those memories we both share.
