yeah, I was going to go on my own rant and rave about the commentary on the womens teams yesterday. Ok, yes I have seen some small and young looking girls at my colleges. Hell, I’m one of them(about the same size as most of the US gymnasts) but neither I nor they look pre-pubescent. I hear a lot of people say oh well you know Asians often look very young, a lot of the girls at my schools were Asian as well. Still. While I’m glad it’s somewhat being talked about, this has been an issue in the past and will continue to be an issue. Feels like the commentators are running around all of a sudden like this is something new and shocking. From what I’ve heard tell, there really is no good and reliable documentation of births in China. I felt horrible for that one girl and wanted to punch the commentators when they said “she wanted to quit but lucky for us her parents didn’t let her because this is magic tonight!” WTF! Um, yay for us what about her?! They mention she’s from a poor remote farming area of China (isn’t that like everyone on the team?!), she’s way more than likely the main provider for her family. Yeah, I bet that phone convo with the folks went real well.
Ok, sorry went off into my own rant lol. But yes, I know a lot of stick straight flat chested women but…they are clearly women and not little girls. China is still using the little girls, much much easier.
